Second
row, Richard Hill appeared in the fly half channel and strode over, taking a
couple of defenders with him. Karl Potts, who had been having a hard time
against his opposite number, eventually got away, but was hunted down by
‘Gate’s’ winger. Captain Steve Marks as ever, was up in support, securing the
ball and transferring it to Frank Trueman to get over
from a yard. Then a well-worked passage of play, finished with flanker Calum Cameron who stormed in from forty metres out, he even
outpaced the home side’s right-winger, who up to that point had looked the
quickest player on the pitch. All these tries were converted by scrum-half and
man-of-the-match Jon Kulik. He finished with eighteen points, a try, five
conversions and a penalty goal. He was hard pushed for the man-of-the-match by Calum Cameron who was perpetual motion personified at
number seven.
