Skipton 3rd XV 41 Wibsey 2nd XV 10

With Baildon unable to field a team, the Reds played Wibsey 2nds at home.  The normally dominant Red pack was short of both Morgan and Firth so a makeshift front row of Marlow and Farquhar as props with Pete Collins as captain taking on the onerous duties of hooker.

The result was Skipton were able to contest in the scrum for the whole match with the Wibsey hooker crying foul that our hooker was experienced something of a shock to Pete.  The Reds took control of the game early on with good rucking and driving proving to much for there smaller opposition.  This enabled Oldfield and Hewitt playing half backs to get the ball from a secure platform to release the Reds backs.  With good interplay from the fast running Reds the score mounted quickly.  With tries from Geordie Porter, who found the right line this week, John Wilman, on loan from the Woolly Sheep, Matt Hewitt, with a 50 metre dash, and Paul Arkwright putting two over with good hard running. The pack not to be left out scored through Oldfield and Whitley crashing the ball over the slighter defenders.  Matt Hewitt kicking for the Reds saw 4 out of 7 kicks go over.  Wibsey scored two unconverted tries.

Skipton then introduced its international player, a Canadian winger, Ben playing his first game who ran some very good lines.  With both teams tiring after a hard game, infringements started to occur.  With the referee Mr Pat Law penalising both sides and having to get the respective captains to speak to their teams.

A good match with Wibsey looking for a return fixture in the future.  A rounded display by the Reds using the interplay between backs and forwards to achieve another good win.  Next fixture is Ripon 4th XV at Sandylands.  The Reds 3rds are still looking to strengthen their squad so if you are looking to play social but competitive rugby then contact Pete Collins on 07766 071279 no matter what level you played at before.  Man of the match was Paul Arkwright with good hard running and solid tackling in defence.
