“SKIPTON FINISH SEASON WITH ANOTHER BIG WIN”

SKIPTON 61 - 5 ST MARY’S OLD BOYS CLUB, GALWAY

Skipton finished the season on Saturday in fine style with another big win, this time over an Irish touring side from Galway who made their base in Skipton over the weekend.

Despite several regulars missing from the Red’s line up, they totally dominated throughout and the visitors were convincingly beaten in every area of the game.

Surprisingly, the first score of the day came from the visitors but this was to be Galway’s one and only try and once Skipton got in their stride there was no stopping them. Such has been the strength of Skipton’s team this season that, even with several regulars missing, they can achieve big wins.

In the first half, Skipton’s try scorers were backs Darren Howson, Hamish Munro and Alex Naylor. Tries also from forwards Vinnie Murphy and Iain Sneddon (2) whilst Darren Howson landed five out of six conversions.  Half time score 40 – 5.

In the second half, only the heat slowed the pace of scoring.  Nevertheless Vinnie Murphy got his second try, Iain Sneddon his third try and prop Ben Oldfield galloped through a line of defenders for a solo try. Darren Howson converted three out of three.

With a final score of 61 – 5 so ends a glorious season at Sandylands.
