LEEDS CORINTHIANS SECONDS 12 – 17 SKIPTON SECONDS

Skipton went to face the Leeds side knowing that they faced a tough, physical contest and weren't disappointed.

In the early exchanges it was clear who was the fitter and more skillful side with new signing, Morgan Bailey playing his first game for Skipton and Martin Murray gaining metres every time they carried the ball leading to a well taken opening try in the first five minutes from Martin Murray duly converted by John Hughes. This was followed by another midfield break with the ball eventually getting to Lucas Wootton, also playing his first senior game for the club who beat the opposition defence to score in the corner. Skipton's game suffered a blow when influential player, Martin Murray, came off with injury after 20 minutes but even so Leeds never looked like scoring in the first half.

At half time with a 0-12 lead the Reds still expected to pull away and soon scored again with Wootton displaying his footballing skills by chipping the ball past the last defender to bounce up into his hands leaving him the simple task of touching down to take another five pointer. Yet again, however, misfortune struck the Reds when Lee Shaw had to leave the field with a neck injury which has probably ended his season. With one man less and some of the Skipton players tiring, Corinthians intercepted a pass and scored a converted try under the posts to bring them back into the game. They followed this with a further try which left the scoreline flattering them. Man of the match was the relentless Ben Hall. It was a keenly contested match played in good spirits.
