Cleckheaton 3rds 26 – 38 Skipton 2nds

Against tough opposition, Skipton achieved the result they needed after losing a couple of close games. Always in the ascendency they dominated early play although allowing Cleckheaton to edge ahead with a converted try. Almost immediately Skipton responded with tries from Lee Shaw and Steve Marks, both converted by Ash Greaves who also missed a penalty just before half time.

The second half began with Shaw's second try again converted by Greaves, followed by a further converted effort by Cleckheaton. Then full back, Chris Wilkinson, scored the try of the game picking the ball up just outside his own 22, he wove his way through the oncoming Cleckheaton defence before sprinting round their winger and full back. The try again converted by Greaves. This was followed by a first Senior try for Sean Everett on the wing but no conversion followed.

Cleckheaton responded with a further converted try and then Shaw claimed his hat-trick.  The final act of the game was an unconverted try for Cleckheaton. Although all tries were scored by backs, the hard work and effort of the forwards and half backs cannot be underestimated. If this level of performance is sustained, the side will win far more games than it loses as the season progresses.
