Skipton end season on a high with Ribb double
19 April 2008Skipton ended the season on a high with an 11-7 victory over North Ribblesdale at Sandylands, to clinch the double over their local rivals this season. The Reds' points came from a Jon Dillon second half try (who unfairly had a try ruled out in the first half) and two Brydon Maiava penalties. Leading 11-0, a Ribb try late on made for a close finish but Skipton held on for their 16th win from 22 league games this season.

It's getting very tight at the bottom where Dinnington won 17-16 away at Goole to come out of the relegation places and leapfrog their opponents. With West Leeds (already relegated) losing at North Ribb, Goole are in danger of following West Leeds back to Yorkshire 3, and they face a tough away game at Yarnbury next Saturday. Both Dinnington, Ripon (who lost 18-15 at Pocklington) and Leodiensians (who started the day second bottom but enjoyed a surprise 18-0 win over fifth-placed Wheatley Hills) can still also go down. The two other results today were Knottingley 14 - 7 Yarnbury and North Ribblesdale 32 - 12 West Leeds.
Skipton end their league campaign next week at home to local rivals North Ribblesdale, whilst Brods travel to Ripon next week looking for the perfect 100% record. The other last day fixtures are: Dinnington vs Pocklington, West Park Leeds vs Leodienians and Wheatley Hills vs Knottingley.

Skipton Colts Sevens a great success
7 April 2008Following the revival of the tournament last season, The Cynthia Burnett Memorial Colts Sevens was played at Sandylands last Sunday. With teams entered from Pocklington, Harrogate, Otley, Bramley Phoenix, Colne & Nelson, Roundhegians, Preston Grasshoppers, Formby Vikings, Bradford & Bingley, Old Crossleyans, Skipton and a Barbarians side made up of players from each club to even up the draw, the competition made up of three groups of four led to three sub tournaments, in order of merit The Cup, The Plate and The Vase. The morning group games were played in brilliant sunshine with the smell of bacon sandwiches wafting from the barbecue, then as the afternoon went on the snow arrived and at one stage with Otley playing Bradford and Bingley in a thrilling semi final, the pitch was white and the markings almost invisible.
The day brought together teams who would never normally play each other and the emphasis was definitely on enjoyment, although the games were still fiercely competitive and future friendships were formed. The Barbarians added an extra element of fun bringing the players into one side & at one stage five of the seven being front row forwards not ideal for sevens!! However the moment that will stay with most spectators was the Bradford & Bingley coach refereeing the Vase final in a snowstorm wearing tight, bright yellow lycra shorts and a sun vest not a pretty sight!
At the business end of the day The Cup was won by Pocklington, The Plate by Preston Grashoppers & The Vase by Skipton. Shields were presented in the clubhouse after the games by club president Warren Burnett. The tournament is dedicated to Warrens late wife, Cynthia.
Special thanks go to the catering/barbecue team, bar staff who all had a long day but most of all to Warren Burnett senior and junior, John Hughes, Andy Smith & Wayne from Formby Vikings who refereed all day and without whom the event could not have proceeded. Not to be left out, Tracy Murray who did all the organisation.

Champagne all round as Skipton promoted to Yorkshire One for first time in history!
29 March 2008The Reds had a nailbiting 17-16 win against Leodiensians today to clinch promotion. With nearest rivals Yarnbury losing 10-3 at Dinnington, nothing can stop the Reds from playing in Division 1 next season for the first time ever. Congratulations to all concerned. 16 March 2008With the 1st XV not in action, the 2nd XV took centre stage on the first team field and produced their best performance of the season to beat a strong Baildon side for the second time in a month - this time 27-7.
Try scorers were Martin Murray, Paddy Murray, Ben Davies and Jonny Kulik with Ash Greaves adding two conversions and a penalty. Vital win for Skipton puts them one win from Yorkshire One
9 March 2008Skipton beat Knottingley 25-11 yesterday to all but clinch promotion to Yorkshire One. The whole team deserve credit for their performance in terrible conditions yesterday and the tries came from Mark Battle, Sean Kennedy and fitness coach and tryscoring legend Paul Lacy - his 90th for the 1st XV. Brydon Maiava added ten points with the boot (two penalties and two conversions). Matty Wilson's appearance was his 50th for Skipton 1st XV.
With Yarnbury winning at Pocklington 28-8 yesterday, only they can stop Skipton clinching the second promotion spot but they remain four points behind with a significantly inferior points difference, which is worth an extra point to the Reds. Yarnbury must win all their three remaining fixtures - away to Dinnington (who are fighting for the lives to stay up), away to Knottingley and at home to Goole (who are also in the relegation dogfight) - to stand any chance of overtaking Skipton. Mathematically the Reds need to win one of their final three league games - away to Leodiensians, away to Old Brodleians or home to North Ribblesdale - to confirm promotion to Yorkshire One for the first time in its history.
Skipton have a few weeks' rest from league rugby and return to action on Saturday 29 March at tenth placed Leodiensians - who themselves need points to guarantee safety - hoping for the win they need to crack open the champagne.

Skipton slip to another surprise defeat
2 March 2008Skipton lost 27-7 at third bottom Goole yesterday in a game which could have given them one foot in Division One next season. The Reds' only try came from flanker Iain Sneddon, converted by Brydon Maiava. The game was marred by a serious knee injury to full back Lee Battle, which forced the game to be abandoned after 70 minutes, and we wish him the swiftest recovery. Thankfully Yarnbury lost again to leave the Reds in the driving seat for the second promotion place but they will need to bounce back next week against Knottingley.

Skipton back to winning ways against West Park Leeds
24 February 2008Skipton won 26-7 in a rearranged league fixture at bottom-placed West Park Leeds yesterday, to move four points of clear of third placed Yarnbury in the race for promotion. Skipton's tries came from James Burke (within seconds of the kick off), Darren Howson and Liam Ray, with skipper Howson adding three penalties and one conversion. In his first outing at scrum half, Sam Boatwright had an excellent game. Chris Sheehan reached fifty Skipton 1st XV appearances during the match with Richard Willsher having passed the milestone the previous weekend.
In the only other league game, Old Brods won 21-7 at Yarnbury to stay eight points clear of the Reds in top spot. Skipton travel to third bottom Goole next Saturday (1 March) against a side desparate for points to stay up.

Surprise defeat for Skipton
17 February 2008Skipton lost 17-13 to relegation threatened Dinnington yesterday in a poor display. The high flying Reds looked lethargic whilst Dinnington, desperate to stave off relegation at the other end of the table, were full of initiative and energy and deserved to collect the winning points. Skipton could claim that injuries to key players during the game affected them and a mid-game delay of twenty minutes because of an injury to the referee did not help. However, the reality was that Skipton started too well. After five minutes they were already 7-0 up - through a try from skipper Darren Howson, converted by Brydon Maiava - and seemed to assume that they would coast to an easy win but when the visitors seized their chances in the second half it left Skipton with red faces as well as red jerseys. Skipton responded with two late Howson penalties but they were not enough to snatch the points.

Old Brods won 38-10 at home to Knottingley to maintain their 100% record. They have now won 16 out of 16 and sit eight points clear of Skipton in top spot. Two more wins will guarantee them not only promotion but the league title as well. In other Yorkshire Division 2 matches, Pocklington's terrible slump since beating Skipton on New Year's Day continues. They lost 24-19 at home to Wheatley Hills so are now four points behind the Reds in fourth, having played one more game also. Yarnbury won 25-10 at bottom placed West Leeds to stay the only likely challengers to Skipton in third and two points behind the Reds.
Skipton go to West Park Leeds for a rearranged league game next Saturday (23 February), needing a win to get the promotion train back on track.

Meanwhile, in other club matches at Skipton, it was a bad day all round with the 2nd XV being beaten 52-3 by Otley 2nd XV in a total mismatch of a fixture and the 3rd XV losing 38-5 to a very youthful and useful Old Modernians 3rd XV.

Skipton continue winning ways against promotion rivals
11 February 2008After a week's break due to the winter weather, Skipton bounced back with a crucial 18-7 win at third place Yarnbury. Skipton's tries were scored by Liam Ray and Sean Kennedy (a welcome returnee for his first competitive appearance of the season), with Brydon Maiava adding one conversion and two penalties.
Old Brodleians remain 100% with 15 wins out of 15 and Skipton are securing second spot with 24 points. Yarnbury and Pocklington are both on 20 points, although both have played an extra game over the Reds so the gap could extend to six points with only seven league games left. Skipton continue their promotion charge at home to second bottom Dinnington this Saturday (16 February).

Only one match survives the snow but promotion boost for Reds
3 February 2008Snow forced the postponement of five out of six Yorkshire Two matches yesterday, including Skipton's trip to bottom-placed West Park Leeds. The only completed fixtures was Knottingley 21-17 Pocklington. The result moves Knottingley up to seventh and is a blow to fourth-placed Pocklington's hopes of catching Skipton for the second promotion place. The South Yorkshire side are now two points behind Skipton, having played an extra game. In the only club game to take place, Skipton 3rds lost 10-5 at local rivals Keighley 3rds. Ben Oldfield scored the Reds only try.

Maiava's kicking helps Skipton win close game
27 January 2008Brydon Maiava's four near on impossible penalties in terrible conditions for goalkicking were the difference in a match where Skipton beat Wheatley Hills 17-10, despite being outscored by two tries to one. Skipton's try was scored by speedy winger Jon Dillon, after a break by Darren Howson and Maiava.
In other results, Old Brods demolished Dinnington 57-22 to maintain their perfect record (now 14 out of 14) and Yarnbury and Pocklington both won to remain two points behind Skipton in third and fourth respectively. It was a great day all round for the club with all three sides winning. Patrick Murray scored a hat trick and Sean Kennedy kicked two conversions at the start of his journey back to 1st XV fitness as the seconds beat Heath 2nd XV 19-7. Skipton 3rd XV beat Heath 3rd XV 22-5 despite playing most of the game with a man less after the referee didn't turn up. Andy Smith had to replace his playing kit with a referee's whistle and did the job proud. Skipton's scorers were Matthew Cox, Ben Oldfield, Harry Poynton and Steven Marks, with Adam Clarke adding a conversion.

Reds make disappointing start to 2008
6 January 2008In the first game since the Christmas break, Skipton looked decidely rusty and lost 32-17, enabling third placed Pocklington to narrow the gap over league leaders Brods and Skipton.
Skipton opened the scoring with tries from Adam Oldfield and Mark Battle but then allowed Pock to gain a 27-10 half time lead due to poor handling and poor tackling particularly in the backs. In the second half The Reds improved again and picked up further points from a penalty try when Pocklington collapsed a scrum and this was converted by Darren Howson. However a final score of 32-17 was a fair reflection of a disappointing Skipton display.Meanwhile, Skipton 2nds had a great win 27-10 over higher placed Bradford & Bingley 3rds, whilst Skipton 3rds did well to draw 12-12 will Wharfedale 5ths.

Skipton back to winning ways with historic Ribb victory
2 December 2007Skipton won 8-5 at North Ribblesdale yesterday to clinch their first ever league victory over their local rivals. Because of previous league differences, it is several years since these local sides have met. With both teams now in Yorkshire Division 2, this was a long awaited local derby game, being only the third time the two clubs have met in league action since league rugby began in 1987-88.
It was a dour, hard-fought game on a very heavy wet pitch. By half-time Skipton were just ahead at 3-0, following a successful penalty kick by Brydon Maiava. Then, soon after half-time, winger Alex Naylor zipped in for a try to make it 8 - 0.
Ribb fought back with a pushover try but the Reds held on and, not only was this a satisfying win, it helps keep Skipton in second place in the league table and put Skipton's promotion train back on track.

Skipton suffer rare defeat and lose top spot
12 November 2007In a shock result, Skipton suffered their first league defeat this season, 11-3 at Ripon. It enabled rivals Old Brodleians to take top place with Skipton now second in the table. However, the Reds are still favourites to take one of the promotion places as the chasing teams are still way behind the top two.
Whilst all credit must go to Ripon, this was a massive below par performance by the Reds who lacked cohesion all game and seemed unable to cope with a strong blustery wind. Skipton's only score was a penalty kick by Alex Naylor.Click here to read the full match report

4 November 2007This was a vital league game for the Reds against third placed Pocklington and they game through with flying colours - winning 31-12 - to stay top of the league.
Pocklington gave Skipton a tough game and always looked dangerous but tries from James Burke, George Smithson (two) and Iain Sneddon piled up the points for the Reds and with Alex Naylor kicking 100% (four conversions and a penalty) this was another excellent performance.
George Smithson - two tries against Pocklington took him past 100 for Skipton 1st XV

Skipton win at Wharfedale
25 August 2007
Skipton continued their impeccable pre-season with a fantastic 14-13 win over Wharfedale Foresters at Threshfield. Tries came from Michael Snowden, an ex-Wharfedale player, and Moa Meki, with skipper Darren Howson converting both.
This result gives the Reds a great boost ahead of their first proper game of the season at home to Pocklington on Saturday 1 September in the EDF National Vase.

Friday 25 August's eagerly anticipated game against Wharfedale Foresters, originally scheduled for Sandylands, will take place at Wharfedale, kicking off at 7.30pm.
Skipton's stunning success at Colne 10s
13 August 2007
Skipton RFC brought home the Winners Cup from the Colne 10s competition on Saturday after a stunning afternoon which saw the Reds amass 208 points and concede only 17.
En route to the final, Skipton beat Preston Grasshoppers 42-0, North Ribblesdale 26-5, Burnley 17-0, Colne & Nelson 45-0 and West Craven Warriors 40-0.
In the final, the Reds played Burnley (the new name for the Caldervale club) and lifted the trophy with a convincing 38-12 win. Skipton's scorers were tries from Sean Kennedy (3), Hamish Munro, Alex Naylor and George Smithson with conversions from James Burke(2), Alex Naylor and Adam Oldfield.
Meanwhile, Skipton have completed the registration of impressive flanker Michael Snowden from Wharfedale and also secured the services of talented young prop Ryan Binner who has registered at Skipton despite being eyed by Leeds Tykes Academy. Last week, the Reds announced they had already signed full back Lee Battle and speedy back Liam Ray.
Skipton will be starting the season on 1 September with their strongest squad for many years and there is real optimism at Sandylands that last season's success will be repeated again this season.
Skipton ready for new season
11 August 2007
The Reds are fully prepared for the new season and will be hoping that last season's success continues this year. They know that life in Yorkshire Division Two will be tougher but the Sandylands camp is full of confidence and training throughout the summer under Head Coach Adam Oldfield, Fitness Coach Paul Lacy and Captain Darren Howson has gone exceptionally well.
With no outgoing players, last seasons winning 1st XV squad remains fully available and Skipton's two Kiwi forwards, Gavin Petterd and Moa Meki, both remain for a further season. The squad has been strengthened by the signing of Lee Battle (full back) and Michael Snowden (forward) from Wharfedale and ex Wharfedale Colts Ryan Binner and Liam Ray have also joined the Reds. Like last year, there are also a number of talented young players who have come up through the Colts/Development Team who will be in contention for 1st team places.
Kiwi forwards Moa Meki and Gavin Petterd remaining at the club is a big boost
Skipton's Chairman Richard Mashiter says "This season we will have a much bigger squad with real competition for places and cover readily available should injuries occur to key players.".
This Saturday, the Reds will be competing at the Colne 10s and hoping to retain the Cup they won last year. On Friday evening 24 August, they have a tough final warm up match against Wharfedale Foresters.
The season at Sandylands starts on Saturday 1 September with a home draw in the EDF National Senior Vase contest against Pocklington and the first league game is also at home on Saturday 8 September against Leodensians.

Skipton receives RFU Seal of Approval
7 June 2007
Skipton Rugby Club is delighted to announce that they have been awarded the coveted RFU Seal of Approval.
The prestigious award was presented at a gala dinner at the club last Saturday by rugby legend Dean Richards. The club's complex application was steered through by Robin Hargrave and Junior Chairman Bob Binns, who were presented with the award by Dean, the former England, Lions and Leicester No 8, and current Director of Rugby at Harlequins.
The Seal of Approval, and the Sport England 'Clubmark' award which goes with it, gives Skipton official recognition as a club which is providing its young people with a safe, well-organised and enjoyable environment in which to learn and play rugby.
Junior Secretary Robin Hargrave, who spearheaded the campaign towards achieving the Seal of Approval, outlined the importance of the award: "The number of mini and junior club members at Skipton has risen each year recently. Working towards the Seal of Approval has helped us to recognise and organise our good practices and policies, and develop new ones where necessary. Achieving this accreditation has given the Junior Section a solid foundation to take this part of the club forward, encouraging and developing future generations of rugby players".
Bob Binns, Junior Chairman said: "The Seal of Approval is a major step forward for us. It means that any prospective new members are guaranteed joining a vibrant club which has a supply of fully qualified coaches, an acknowledged child protection policy and a three year plan for development, all of which have the approval of the RFU. This has been a fantastic effort by Robin and all the members of the Junior Committee. They have put in a huge amount of time to achieve this accreditation, and it highlights what can be accomplished with endeavour and dedication".
Richard Mashiter, Club Chairman, said: "We have a flourishing junior section at the club and Sunday mornings are a hive of activity. We are now starting to see the players who played in the junior ranks at the club push for senior team places. It is vital that we maintain this system to ensure the continuing development of the club and safeguard its future."

1st XV 2006/2007
The 1st XV had its most successful season for a number of years and finished second in Yorkshire Three, only missing on the title on points difference. This means the team return to Yorkshire Division Two after an absence of three seasons. All credit must go to Director ot Rugby David Stephens for the impact he has made, as well as his coaching team, skipper Darren Howson and all the players who have worn the red jersey which such pride and heart this season.
In total, 35 players appeared for the 1st XV this season in 28 matches, scoring 730 points, including 111 tries, and conceding only 302. They won 22 and lost 6 of their 28 games. Howson, Adam Oldfield and Malcolm Willsher made the most appearances, 27 out of a maximum of 28, with Howson, Gavin Petterd and Matthew Boatwright playing in all 22 league matches.
Leading point scorer was Alex Naylor with 168 (146 in the league) comprising 14 tries, 28 conversion and 14 penalties. Next was Howson with 93 (90 in the league), with 5 tries (all in the final two games of the season!), 28 conversions and 4 penalties. Current 1st XV career statistics
A number of 1st XV players hit milestones through the course of the season. Evergreen winger Mike Beech hit 250 1xt XV games and has now played 255 games (175 in the league) since he joined the club in 1995 from Northallerton (where he also made 250 appearances!). Adam Oldfield and Darren Howson, who have played in the same team for the club since mini rugby in the 1980s, passed 200 apparances within a few weeks of each other. Oldfield has played 218 (148 in the league) and Howson's tally is 211 (156 in the league). Finally, Iain Sneddon passed 100 appearances and has now played 105 (77 in the league).
In his 255 games, Beech has scored 89 tries (445 points). Oldfield is surely the club's all-time top points scorer. In his 218 games, he has accumulated 1,143 with 55 tries, 179 conversions, 166 penalties and 4 drop goals. The only other two current players with more points than Beech are Howson with 641 (29 tries, 137 conversions and 74 penalties) and George Smithson with 465 (93 tries).

Overall 1st XV career statistics
Since league rugby and records began in 1987, Andy Philip has made most appearances with 354 (171 in the league). Given that Andy began his 1st XV career much earlier than that, he is likely to be well over 400 in total. Next comes Bob Birks with 318 (127 in the league), Bill Nicholson with 261 (119 in the league) and then Mike Beech with 255. With 175 of these being appearances in league matches, Beech is the record holder in this area, followed by Darren Howson 156, Adam Winthrop 154 and Adam Oldfield 148.
Pete Shearer with 1,348 points (24 tries, 152 conversions and 308 penalties) has scored the most points since 1987 - assuming five points for a try to make a fair comparision with the current era. However only 667 of his points came in league matches so Adam Oldfield, with 1,143 in total, leads in this area with 763 points in league competition. Howson is third in the list with 641 points (29 tries, 137 conversions and 74 penalties), with 493 points in the league.

2nd XV 2006/2007
The 2nd XV enjoyed a mixed season, winning 12 and losing 12 of its 24 matches. Consistency of team selection at this level is always difficult with 69 different players appearing throughout the season. Player of the year James Wade and Dave Mitton made most appearances (21 out of a maximum 24), followed by Jon Kulik 19 and Steven Marks 18. Top point scorer with 65 points was James Burke, despite him playing half of the season in the 1st XV after his early season awesome form, followed by Jack Firth with 34 points. Top try scorers were Burke and Marks with 6, Ben Davies with 5 and Gordon Fisher and Hamish Munro with 4. 2nd XV team manager Peter Dutton has worked tirelessly through his three years in this role and hugely deserved his Contribution to Rugby Development award.

3rd XV 2006/2007
The 3rd XV season should not be judged on its win/loss ratio. They had some great wins but the main positive was the team spirit created by captain and team manager Pete Collins, resulting in him winning Clubman of the Year.

Skipton finish league season in fine style
16 April 2007
Considering that opponents Moortown had been in promotion contention until recently, 36-7 was a convincing win by the Reds who were always on top.
They demonstrated to the large numbers of Skipton travelling supporters that they are ready for their higher level of rugby next season. So ends a glorious season for the Reds who have gained promotion by winning 18 out of 22 games and scoring 635 points, both these statistics being the highest in the league.
On Saturday tries came from Sean Kennedy and Alex Naylor (both two), Darren Howson and Moa Meki with conversions by Darren Howson and James Burke (two).

Skipton promoted in style as Howson sets new club record
31 March 2007
In front of a large home crowd, the Reds clinched promotion with a 66-5 victory over Northallerton and will play in Yorkshire Division Two next season.
Although only 12-0 up at half time, in the second half they gave a stunning display of open running rugby and overwhelmed the visitors. Skipton's tryscorers were Darren Howson with four (his first tries of the season), George Smithson, Adam Oldfield, Iain Sneddon, Sean Kennedy, Anthony Murphy and Richard Curtin. Howson added eight conversions to finish with 36 points, an incredible haul and a club record.

Champagne on ice as Skipton all but promoted
24 March 2007
Thornensians' 11-3 defeat at Roundhegians - their third defeat in a row since promotion was in their own hands - means Skipton are all but promoted. Moortown's 21-6 victory over West Leeds means only they can catch Skipton for the second promotion place and it would take a mathematical miracle for this to be the case.

Skipton can wrap up promotion, and try to wrestle top spot from Yarnbury, when they face Northallerton at home on Saturday 31 March. Northallerton are all but relegated with Roundhegians winning at the weekend.
Skipton 2nd XV beat Bradford & Bingley 3rd XV 38-0. This was a thrilling performance with James Burke starring with three tries and four conversions and comeback kids Sam Boatwright and George Smithson both excelling.

Skipton edge closer after Thorne lose again
18 March 2007
Skipton won a vital league game 35-29 at tenth place Roundhegians and, with close rivals Thornensians losing again, the Reds only need one win out of the remaining two games to secure promotion.
This was a tense close game. Skipton played the best rugby but the hosts heavyweight team kept puncturing the Reds defence to make it hard work. Skipton's try scorers were Iain Sneddon (two), Sean Kennedy, Gavin Petterd and a penalty try. Darren Howson was in fine kicking form and converted all five.

Skipton out of Yorkshire Trophy but promotion hopes boosted
11 March 2007
The Reds, resting some players and reorganising some positions, looked a fragmented team and slid out of the Yorkshire Trophy with a lacklustre display, losing 15-13 at Yorkshire League 4 side Castleford.
Skipton could and should have won but with all minds on the remaining league games this Trophy fixture was of secondary interest. Richard Curtin and Sean Kennedy scored the tries and Darren Howson got a penalty.
Hopefully concentrating on the league will reward Skipton because on Saturday, Thornensians and Moortown who have been chasing them, both played their games in hand and both lost so the Reds again look good bets for promotion.

Skipton go second after rare defeat
4 March 2007
This rare 15-10 defeat to Yarnbury was a major blow to Skipton's promotion aspirations. A win would have virtually guaranteed promotion - now it will go right to the end of the season because the chasing pack have games in hand. Yarnbury have now gone top and Skipton have slipped to second place in the table.
The Reds started well and were soon 10-0 up from a James Burke try and a conversion and penalty from Darren Howson. But Yarnbury stuck doggedly to their task and, having narrowed the gap to 10-8, a second half try and conversion saw them take the game.

Skipton 2nd XV travlled to South Yorkshire to play Sheffield 3rd XVfrom 3 divisions higher and lost narrowly 20-15. Their tries came from Callum Cameron and Jack Firth, with Firth adding a penalty and a conversion.
Skipton 3rd XV lost 31-0 to North Ribblesdale 2nd XV but full marks to team manager Pete Collins for getting his team onto the field after a fixtures debacle. The original fixture against Ribb 3rd XV was cancelled as they could not raise a team, the rearranged fixture against Kirkby Lonsdale 3rd XV was then cancelled when they could not raise a team and eventually, at short notice, it was a greed that Ribb would send their 2nd XV which was a mis-match. Then the appointed ref gave backword and so the teams took the field with only a stand in ref in control - after 40 minutes of robust play it was decided it was sensible to abandon the game.
Skipton triumph in top of the table clash
19 February 2007
Skipton avenged their home defeat in October by defeating Thornensians 16-14 to remain in first place and move three points clear of Thorne. This was an exciting match played at a frenetic pace throughout with the lead changing hands three times. Skipton's wingers Richard Curtin and Hamish Munro scored a try each for the Reds and Alex Naylor's two penalty kicks enabled the Reds to cement their position at the top of the table. In a season of milestones, Iain Sneddon celebrated his 100th 1st XV appearance. Yarnbury went second after thrashing Stocksbridge 84-0.

Reds suffer first defeat since September
7 January 2007
Skipton started the new year in disappointing fashion, losing 16-12 at Baildon, their first league defeat since September. Each side scored two tries but a penalty and a dropped goal by Baildon got them the points with Skipton coming away disappointed. Alex Naylor finished off the two Skipton tries, one of which Darren Howson converted. The result means the Reds drop from 1st to 3rd, following victories for Thornensians and Yarnbury.

29 October 2006
Adam Oldfield celebrated a milestone in yesterday's game against Barnard Castle. It was his 200th game for Skipton 1st XV. Starting at the club at the age of 5, Adam was the youngest captain in the club's history in the club's 150th year in 1999. He represented Yorkshire and the North of England at Colts level and returned to Skipton last year after a spell with Wharfedale, where he made numerous first XV appearances. Adam started out as a scrum half but during his 200 games for the reds, Adam has showed some versatility by playing in every back position, prop and back row. Well done Adam on a tremendous achievement and here's to the next 200!
